MTS Level 6 - Animal Health Technician - Veterinary Teaching Hospital - Atlantic Veterinary College (To Create a Casual List)
$27.84 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay as per CUPE 1870

The Veterinary Teaching Hospital requires Animal Health Technicians to work on a casual, as needed, basis to replace technical staff leaves as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under Supervision, job responsibilities will include:
- Completing and assisting with treatment orders for patients
- Working with technicians and clinicians in the small animal hospital to anticipate, organize, and prioritize cases that need to be assisted with throughout the day.
- Ability to perform necessary nursing skills for the various levels of care required (including animal handling and restraint, and basic husbandry)
- Monitoring and reporting to the clinician any abnormalities in animals in relation to the treatments and/or monitoring of their care and well being
- Support veterinary students working after hours in the Small Animal ICU or doing treatments in the Large Animal Hospital
- Providing technical support to the Large Animal Hospital when required
- Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and biosecurity standards
- Maintaining supplies and ensuring proper equipment maintenance within ICU
- Other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a graduate of an Animal Health Technician program from a recognized facility
- RVT designation is preferred
- Strong computer skills with demonstrated ability in Windows and iOS Operating Systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be self-motivated and accountable to yourself, the patients and your team
- Computer proficiency to be able to perform billing
- Experience with flex schedule (especially night work) preferred
- Experience in an emergency/critical care setting preferred
- 3-5 years of experience with small animals
- Experience with large animals an asset
- Excellent technical proficiency with experience placing catheters and administering IV fluids, performing sample collection (blood/urine), assisting with diagnostic procedures, performing patient assessments and administering required treatments
