Welcome Class of 2024
Congratulations on your acceptance to the Atlantic Veterinary College's Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program! You have worked hard and earned your place at AVC – now hold on for the exciting journey that you are about to embark upon!
Below is a list of important information and forms you’ll need to read and respond to in order to finalize your admission to AVC. Please review this carefully as some items have deadlines. This page will be updated frequently over the spring and summer so keep checking back.
1. Incoming Students Information Package
Read our Incoming Students Information Package for information about living and studying on PEI, details about our DVM academic program, the mpus community, financial aid and scholarship options, AVC clubs, and much more. Orientation will be a combination of virtual and small numbered groups. The first day of classes is Monday, August 31, 2020. Orientation details will follow.
2. Tuition Deposit
All incoming AVC students must provide a non-refundable tuition deposit in order to secure their seat in the program and be officially registered. The deadline for receipt of this deposit depends on whether you are an International or Atlantic American student.
- DEADLINE for International Students (including US Students): April 15, 2020
- DEADLINE for Atlantic American Students: July 1, 2020
3. Registration for Courses
All first-year DVM students take the same courses. The Office of Academic and Student Affairs will manage all registrations so there is no need to individually register for courses through BCA.
4. Blue Coat Welcome Ceremony
We have a tradition at the Atlantic Veterinary College to welcome the incoming class to the College. Members of the class, their families, faculty, and staff join together for an AVC Blue Coat Welcome Ceremony and Dinner and presentation of their blue coats, signifying the start of their journey to become Doctors of Veterinary Medicine.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we have cancelled the ceremony and dinner. We are currently working on an alternative plan to bring us together as a community to welcome you to the Atlantic Veterinary College. Unfortunately, with restrictions limiting the numbers of people who can gather together, your family and friends will not be able to join us.
More details will follow soon. In the meantime, please fill out the order form for your blue lab coats. The deadline to order is Friday, July 24, 2020.
5. Rabies Immunization Program
All students admitted to AVC are required to participate in the Rabies Immunization Program administered by the BCA Student Health Centre. Please read the Rabies Immunization Program Overview carefully, complete the Rabies Immunization History Form, and submit it to the Office of Academic and Student Affairs.
- DEADLINE for receipt of Rabies Immunization History Form: July 1, 2020
6. Payment of First Semester Tuition and Fees
- DEADLINE for payment of first semester tuition and fees: September 18, 2020
Payment options
Breakdown of fees (Note that this is subject to revision in spring 2020; please choose "Veterinary Medicine" in the "Faculty" drop-down)
Permission to Pay Late Form (requires login to myBCA)
7. American (CVMA) and Student American (SAVMA) Veterinary Medical Association Memberships
As a DVM student, you are eligible for membership in the CVMA and the student AVMA at no extra cost. The CVMA supplies each registered student with a name tag for use throughout the DVM program, while the AVMA provides SAVMA on-line access, discounted journal subscriptions, as well as low-cost Malpractice, Life and Disability Insurance options.
The CVMA requests AVC supply the names of all DVM students for the purpose of registering them and generating the name tags. The AVMA also requires students to create a record and obtain a membership number. This can be done online on the AVMA website by selecting "International or First Time SAVMA User" and filling in your name, and graduation year/school, and email. Once your record has been created, a SAVMA membership ID number will be emailed to you but you do not need to go back to this site and pay for your SAVMA dues as your school will take care of this.
Please advise the Office of Academic and Student Affairs at avc-acad-stu@ if you DO NOT grant permission for AVC to supply your name to the CVMA or the AVMA.
