Background: | Carole was born in Fredericton and grew up in Harvey Station, N.B. She did her nursing training at the Victoria Public Hospital in Fredericton, graduating in 1961. Her nursing career took her to Bermuda to Montrial, where she was employed by the Victorian order of Nurses to Vancouver and Penticton, and eventually to Edmonton where she was an emergency room RN at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. While at the Royal Alexandra Hospital she married Dr. Piero Campanaro, an anesthesiology resi dent. In 1970 she left her career in nursing to become a full time mother to her two children, Eli and Richard. Later, in Saudi Arabia with Piero and her children although not working as a nurse, she become, nevertheless, quite involved with nursing administration at the King Faisal Hospital in Riyadh. When Piero became a staff anesthetist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 1997, Carole got actively involved with WOHELO, a charitable organization dedicated to raising funds for the QEH. On April 10, 2013 whi le returning from a WOHELO meeting her life was suddenly ended in a motor vehicle accident. This scholarship has been established by a group of friends to honour the memory of Carole Campanaro. Her career as a nurse was one of care and thoughtfulness for her patients; her relationship with her friends reflected the same love and generosity of spirit Criteria: Beginning in the fall of 2013, the Carole Campanaro Memorial Nursing Award will be granted to a second year student in the four year BSc. Nursing program at BCA who is in good academic standing and has demonstrated a strong personal response and dedication to the challenges of nursing. This award is non-renewable. The successful recipient will be recommended by the faculty of the School of Nursing and approved by the BCA Scholarships and Awards Committee.
