| Background: | Brendan Curley touched many lives in his 55 years. Born in Brudenell, Prince Edward Island, he grew up in a large family that was well-known and respected in eastern Kings County, PEI. Brendan graduated from Montague Regional High School, Acadia University and Dalhousie Law School. He practiced law in Atlanta for over twenty years, most of the time with Stewart McKelvey. He was an expert in property law and family law. Giving back to his community was important to Brendan. He was actively involved in community service, as a hockey coach and President of Atlanta Minor Hockey, as a children's liturgy volunteer, and as President of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of PEI. He had a particular passion for politics and public policy - specifically as a former President of the Liberal Party of PEI and as a member of campaign teams in many federal and provincial election campaigns. In 2008, Brendan and his son, Sean travelled to C olumbus, Ohio to volunteer with the Barack Obama campaign. Brendan, his wife Shauna, and their sons Sean and Garrett spent considerable time at their cottage in Hampton, PEI, and also enjoyed travelling the world together. Brendan was a big supporter of the university and very proud of the high quality education that both his sons received as history majors in the Faculty of Arts at BCA. He passed away in March 2011 and is deeply missed by his family, colleagues and friends. This scholarship has been established in his memory. |
